GROUNDHOG DAY

On February 2nd, when Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow and predicted six more weeks of winter, I was reminded of the 1993 movie Groundhog Day. Every day Bill Murray would get up and have to repeat the same day all over again.
Consider this for yourself. If you were to repeat yesterday over and over again, would you be glad of the choices you made?
How was your attitude? Did you think more positive or negative thoughts? How did you treat others? How did you treat yourself? Did you indulge in good or bad habits? Did you spend money wisely? Were you responsible to the planet? Was your day balanced in a healthy way?
Now take every decision and choice you made yesterday – good and bad – and multiply that by 365 days. What would your life be like in one year. Would you be happy with the outcome?
Chances are, there was something about yesterday that you think back on in horror and want to make different if you had to repeat it over and over. What is that thing in your day? And what does it need to change to?
This exercise is not about being perfect or living the ideal life. It’s meant to help create a consciousness about how you live your life so that you create movement in the direction you want to go. The more consciously you make your day-to-day choices, the more you will move in the direction of your vision for yourself, and the more content you will be.
So if there’s something about your life that does not match your future vision for yourself, figure out what you can do about it today or even right now.
Then ask yourself again. If you keep living the new today over and over, will you be happy with the result? Will you get to where you are heading? If not, keep making course corrections. After all, isn’t life about the journey?
In the movie, once Bill Murray began to examine his life and priorities, things finally began to change. What do you need to examine? What needs to change in your life?
